I. British Literature 1

 

Objectives:
This course will examine British literature from the beginnings till the end of the 18th century. Special attention will be paid to Medieval English World. Lectures will cover the following topics: Old English Poetry and Poetics, OE Religious and Elegiac Poetry, OE Heroic Poetry and Beowulf, Old English Prose, the Birth of Middle English Literature, Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and the Development of Medieval Drama. The 16th, 17th and 18th century poetry and prose will be discussed during seminars.

 

Requirements and assessment:
To receive credits, each students will be required to give an oral presentation of his/her paper, and to submit an essay on assigned topic. Active participation in seminar work and eighty per cent attendance is a must.
